If you receive a mild electrical shock when you touch your faucets, turn off the circuit breaker on your hot water heater. If the faucet no longer shocks, call the plumber to replace a heating element in your hot water heater, or you may need to replace the heater.

If the faucet still shocks when the hot water heater circuit breaker is off, call your local electrical company and have them check your lines. If this does not fix the problem, call a licensed electrician.

In older homes, metal water lines were used as an electrical ground. New homes, with PVC pipes, are not grounded through the plumbing.
